Hi,

Quite often an EPC recommendation is that a point of use water heater should be used. I am not sure how this should be modelled to improve the EPC rating.

I have tried changing from a indirect cylinder system connected to an LTHW boiler to an instantaneous water heater with greatlt reduced storage, supplied from grid supplied electricity, which in this model makes the rating worse.

Not convinced i am modelling this correctly as the rating should improve. or should i just filter out the recommendation?

I would expect that the primary benefit of a point of use system would be in the reduction of deadlegs, however specifying deadlegs appears to make very little (if any) difference to the emissions rate and is only required for those zones where the water is made available.

The idea is that, for large buildings, heating water locally leads to less (pipe) heat losses than piping the hot water right around the building. Local electric water heaters should be modelled as stand alone water heaters.
