I am modeling a building for a sample summer week in Barcelona, Spain, and I would like to discuss results from Design Building, as well as asking some details about the way the program works. I hope someone will be interested.
First, it has to be pointed out that Design Builder results for indoor temperatures are quite similar to measured indoor temperatures, so I could assume that the calculation is valid.
Second, I am trying to understand the building’s behavior, and therefore looking in detail to the outputs given in the General Display options. In the 5th level: Fabric and ventilation, I get very similar results for the Floor (ext; which is on the ground) and Roof for a Summer Sample Week in Barcelona, and that could seems strange.
Here is what I am assuming, maybe it could be discussed:
4_Internal gains:
- That solar gains through exterior windows are mainly due to radiation
5_Fabric and ventilation
- That gains though glazing, roof and floor (ext) are mainly due to transmission. Therefore, Uvalues, areas and differences between indoor and outdoor temperatures should be the main influencing parameters.
If the indoor temperatures are always warmer than the outdoor (the building does not have a cooling system),
Why could gains for glazing, roof and floor be both positive and negative?
Why gains for glazing are “opposite and 12h delayed” to these of the roof and floor, that is, glazing’s maximum positive gain comes 12h later than roof’s minimum negative gain?
