The new DesignBuilder SBEM software tool is a fast and easy way to generate EPCs and check building designs against Part-L2 of the England and Wales Building Regulations, Section 6 of Scottish Building Regulations and Part F in Northern Ireland. Now approved by CLG, DesignBuilder SBEM is free to download and use and can be considered as a high productivity upgrade to BREs' iSBEM program.

Energy assessors will need to complete an approved training course with DesignBuilder Certification before being able to use the software to produce BRUKL reports for Building Control.

Obtaining Licences 

The DesignBuilder free download allows you enter building models and run SBEM calculations. However, to produce BRUKL reports or EPCs you must obtain a DesignBuilder SBEM software licence. There are 2 routes to purchasing DesignBuilder SBEM licences:  

1. As part of the Training package - in this case the DesignBuilder SBEM software is bundled free with the training, or,

2. Purchased separately the DesignBuilder SBEM software costs £499. This cost will be discounted from the cost any future DesignBuilder Certification training.
